Jakarta – The biggest exhibition in furniture and handicrafts in Indonesia, and ASEAN, Indonesia International Furniture Expo (IFEX) 2018 has just ended on Monday (12/3). As in previous years, IFEX this time also presents a variety of superior furniture and craft products from various manufacturers in Indonesia, as well as various support programs and facilities for visitors , buyers , and exhibitors .
What is slightly different this year is the wider range of land used for outdoor areas due to the increasing number of exhibitors in this area. In addition, the number of participants using the concept booth with double-decker (two floors) also increased. “In addition to the increasing number of participants in the outdoor area, this year we also specialize in bringing CRAFTNATION Hall C3 featuring unique crafts from various regions. In addition, we also continue to present Hall of Excellence for products that have been curated by HIMKI team, “said Chairman of Indonesian Furniture and Handicraft Association (HIMKI), Soenoto. The presence of this Hall of Excellence makes it easy for buyers to search for their target product, outside of other mainstay products especially for new buyers who first present to the IFEX event.
This year, for the first time IFEX brings IFEX mobile apps aimed at making it easier for visitors to get information about exhibits and various daily agendas. Through this application, visitors can also make appointments with exhibitors . In the future, the committee will improve the appearance and features of the mobile apps for the convenience of the participants. “Currently we see not many participants who know of this mobile apps . In the future we hope that more visitors and buyers will benefit from this mobile apps presence, “said Daswar Marpaung, President Director of Dyandra Promosindo.
As in previous years, the fifth IFEX is again getting positive appreciation from buyers , visitors , and exhibitors . Some participants said unlike previous years, on the IFEX title this time they can directly get the transaction from buyers . In the fifth year, buyers seem to have begun to chart the producers and their products, while in previous years buyers only do window shopping .
HIMKI as the organizer of IFEX hopes this positive trend will continue beyond the exhibition. “We think the IFEX achievement this year is better than the previous year. We hope that this will not only take place during the exhibition but continues throughout the year, even continuing through the following years, “said Abdul Sobur, the secretary-general of HIMKI. This positive trend will certainly mean a lot for the realization of the export target of furniture market set by the government, which is USD 5 billion in 2019.
Harmonization of Exhibition Time
As part of the furniture exhibition circuit in Asia, IFEX is one of the target of foreign buyers interested in the uniqueness and beauty of Indonesian furniture and handicraft products. Although the interest in IFEX is so great, not all buyers successfully visit IFEX because of the closing exhibition schedule. This is revealed when HIMKI held ‘ Buyers Gathering ‘ in Germany which is part of IFEX promotion efforts to overseas buyers .
Representatives of foreign journalists who are members of the International Alliance of Furnishing Publications (IAFP) also stated the same thing. In a press conference held on the last day of IFEX (12/3), some foreign journalists covering international furniture exhibitions expressed difficulty in arranging such a tight schedule between one exhibition with another. They also hope that exhibitors can provide more detailed information related to their products such as brochures and websites that make it easy for journalists, and buyers , to know more about the products displayed by the exhibitors.
In the future HIMKI will try to harmonize the exhibition schedule to be more appropriate so as to give more time to international buyers , visitors , and journalists to enjoy IFEX exhibition. “We will coordinate with exhibition organizers in other countries in Asia so we can arrange a more convenient schedule for all,” said Daswar Marpaung.
On the other hand, HIMKI will also continue to encourage its members in order to present exhibition supporting materials in English. “As an international fair exhibition, all supporting materials are also displayed in English. Not only brochures and pamphlets but the stand keepers must also be able to communicate well in English, “said Sobur.
Lighter organizing times are expected to attract more exhibitors and international buyers and visitors . For the record, this year’s IFEX title attracted about 11,429 buyers and visitors from 114 countries. IFEX this year was attended by about 500 exhibitors from home and abroad with an on the spot transaction value of USD 350 million and a follow up transaction of USD 790 million, bringing the total transaction to USD 1.14 billion.
On next year’s implementation, IFEX 2019 will be held from 11 – 14 March 2019 “Next year, with a more flexible holding time we hope to attract more visitors from more countries.
